Basmati rice has certain unique characteristics, which owe their origin to the genotype and special agro-climatic conditions prevailing in the Indo- Gangetic Plains. Therefore, legislation approved in the Parliament is to own the Trade Mark or Geographic Indication of Basmati for the benefit of the users and fight for the infringement of the word Basmati.
